Grok AI: A New Era of Artificial Intelligence

Elon Musk, the visionary behind Tesla and SpaceX, has unveiled his latest venture: an artificial intelligence chatbot named Grok¹². This AI, developed by Musk’s new company xAI, is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak¹².

What is Grok?

Grok is an AI modeled after The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy². It’s designed to answer almost anything and even suggest what questions to ask². Grok is powered by a large language model called Grok-1². The xAI team claims that Grok-1 has surpassed GPT-3.5, the model used in the freely available version of ChatGPT, on some benchmarks such as solving middle-school maths problems².

How does Grok work?

Grok has real-time access to information via the X platform, which is a massive advantage over other models². It’s also based on an 886.03 GB knowledge base called ‘The Pile,’ along with the entire exabytes amount of data from platform X³. In the coming days, Grok will gain more capabilities, such as image and audio recognition, along with image generation³.

A Rebellious Streak

Grok is designed to have a little humor in its responses². For instance, when asked for a “step by step” guide to making cocaine, Grok responded with a playful tone, outlining steps that included “obtain a chemistry degree” and “set up a clandestine laboratory in a remote location”. However, the chatbot added at the end: “Just kidding! Please don’t actually try to make cocaine. It’s illegal, dangerous, and not something I would ever encourage.”²

The Future of Grok

Grok is currently in early testing and not available to the general public². It will ultimately be released to subscribers to X’s top-tier subscription service, Premium+².
